NEW FUROSHIKI : LEAH DUNCAN x LINK COLLECTIVE

The latest Furoshiki from the Link Collective are these 2 lovely designs "Mountain Blossom" and "Angles" created by Brooklyn artist Leah Duncan. Both really great designs for Furoshiki - multi cloths that can be used as wrapping cloth, carrying bag, scarf, picnic mat, wall art and so on! All of the LINK Furoshiki are hand printed in Japan by Japanese craftsmen using traditional techniques.

Mountain Blossom Japanese Furoshiki Cloth by Leah Duncan x Link Collective

Mountain Blossom was designed by Brooklyn artist Leah Duncan and she says "design was inspired by the famous cherry blossom mountain view in Japan at sunrise. The elements are subtle, which creates a delicate and abstract pattern when the furoshiki is wrapped, folded, and worn"

Angles is also designed by Leah Duncan - "Inspired by the angles and shapes of Japanese origami techniques, the elements of this design weave around the fabric to create a bold geometric pattern that reflects my roots, mimicking elements of the traditional tapestry designs found in the southwestern United States"

WHAT IS FUROSHIKI??
Furoshiki (風呂敷, fu-rosh-ki) is a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. It can be used in multiple ways, for bundling or gift-wrapping all sorts of things – from lunch boxes or books, to watermelons and bottles of wine. You could even tie it into a handbag or use it as a scarf, a baby blanket or even a wall hanging. One simple and beautiful piece of cloth and the list is endless. Tie it and see!

Each Furoshiki comes with a leaflet that includes how-to-fold-furoshiki instructions.
There are many more wrapping techniques for Furoshiki!

You can make bags from a piece of Furoshiki cloth on its own, but you can also use leather carry straps to make quick and easy Furoshiki bags.

TOSAWASHI PRODUCTS Washi Paper Japanese Receipt Book

We are so thrilled to have the beautiful Japanese washi stationery brand TOSAWASHI PRODUCTS in our selection at UGUiSU online store.

TOSAWASHI PRODUCTS is a new Japanese stationery brand founded by 2 Japanese designers from Tosa, a province in Kochi prefecture in Shikoku island which is known as the land of paper being the main producing center of both material plants and handmade paper in Japan. Type of washi made in this region is called Tosa-washi and is one of the 3 major washi papers that have been traditionally produced.

Tosa-washi is mainly used for wall papers or screens (shoji, fusuma, etc) for interior of traditional style housing or for restoring traditional buildings. The two designers Ayako Yoshioka and Naoya Takemura started this stationery brand with "washi for daily use" as a concept so that people can make good use of tosa-washi papers in everyday scenes. However, carefully handmade washi papers are pretty expensive and is not so easy to make products with these papers to be used casually. So what the two designers did is to use machine made washi where possible (like inside paeprs) and use handmade better quality washi for the cover of the product so that people can enjoy both textures of handmade and machine made washi, and this way the price of each product can be kept to fairly reasonable price.

Some items are letter-pressed, some are so beautiful to feel and to write on, all very simple and lovely packaging....
I hope that many of these washi items will travel around the world through UGUiSU and be used in many people out there!
