I am so excited to finally be stocking the amazing AIRVASE and Paper Plant Pots!

Designed by TORAFU ARCHITECTS of Tokyo, AIRVASE is a paper container that can be stretched into a vase, plate or bowl that enfolds air. It comes as a flat sheet of paper with perforations so that you can pull up each side into the preferred shape. Quite amazing actually!

Another new wonderful paper item is this Stick-on Paper Plant Pot. After an easy foldings a sheet of paper turns into a lovely plant pot that can be stuck on a window surface! It would be so nice to grow herbs on the kitchen window!

Sweet HANA (Flower) Series

The HANA (which means "flowers" in Japanese) series is what we would like to recommend out of recent new arrivals to UGUiSU. The above items are:

1. Sticky Flower Dots -Cute small sticky dots in happy spring colours which are great for bookmarking, numbering memo, scrapbooking, decorating letters and packages, etc.
2. Flower Motif Japanese Incense - Small pressed incense called "Inkou" made into various traditional motifs. These cute floral motif incense can be enjoyed as a decoration on a small dish or tray, and when the fragrance gradually fades you can light each incense and enjoy the beautiful fragrance once again.
3. Cotten Gauze Handkerchief {White Flowers} - Pretty floral design handkerchief printed on white cotton gauze with bright yellow rim, it has a soft and beautiful texture and the delicate and adorable small white flowers are cute and cheerful. The cloth measures 50 x 50cm (19.68") and it can also be used as small furoshiki to use as wrapping cloth.

During the last half of November into December, international delivery can take a lot longer than other times and the deadline for guaranteed delivery before December 25 by STANDARD AIRMAIL is usually around November 15th. So this year we set order deadline to November 13th for guaranteed delivery before December 25 with standard airmail and registered airmail options.

All orders received before November 13th Japan Time (UTC+9) will be shipped before November 16th, but ORDERS RECEIVED AFTER NOVEMBER 14TH WILL NOT BE SHIPPED UNTIL AFTER NOVEMBER 27TH. (We will stop processing new orders received after Nov 14th until Nov 26th)

If you select EMS shipping option, your order will still be delivered before December 25th when orders placed after November 14th. The deadline for EMS shipping will be announced later.

The new issue of the lovely Australian magazine Paper Runway included some of the items from UGUiSU in the pages of their wonderfully selected and styled paper goods stationery features. This issue looks like a really nice one and if you are a stationery/paper goods fan you should definitely check it out!

The gorgeous artwork on the cover is by amazing MR Yen, and illustrations on the page shown in the second image above is by a Tokyo based lovely artist Grace Lee!

Tennen Seikatsu Vol.83 Dec 2011 with a free mt tape!

One of the most popular natural lifestyle magazines in Japan, Tennen Seikatsu (天然生活, literally means "Natural Life" in English) is celebrating its 8th year anniversary and this month they give out a special mt washi tape designed by a popular textile designer Yurio Seki with a copy of their latest issue! (The tape is SO CUTE!)
One of the highlight of this issue includes the story of how the mt washi tapes are made, with photographs of their factory. The texts are all in Japanese only, but with so many beautifully styled photographs the magazine would be a great inspiration!

October New Items #3: Cute Polka Dot Paper Goods

More from the new arrivals are the cute polka dot paper goods! The above small notebooks are just gorgeous, with towel-like soft felt cover each note book is filled with translucent polka dot paper. Each sheet can be removed from the note book quite easily so it can be used as letter paper, origami or wrapping small items. Available in 3 colours: Beige (70 sheets of grey dot paper), Grey (70 sheets of pink dot paper) and Blue (90 sheets of bigger dot paper in beige, green and brown colours).

Another item, A4 Polka Dot Copy Paper can be used on the ink jet printers. (Some printers may cause wrinkles as the paper is lighter and softer than normal copy paper.) They would be great for gift wrapping, book cover or your own note book making. Same paper used in the Polka Dot Small Notebook {grey}

Polka Dot A4 Copy Paper -For DIY Calling Card- is nice mat and thick paper which you can use to make your own calling card. On the dot pattern, there are tiny white dots as guideline so if you print your design on the paper and cut the paper along the guide lines you can make 10 of the 90mm x 55mm size calling card per sheet. It would also be great for making your own invitation cards, menus etc.

Also newly added today, though not polka dot, is the popular Art Paper {Night Sky} in CHRISTMAS SPECIAL VERSION. It would make any Christmas gift a really charming one!

As "Christmas" is mentioned, I must also mention that the due date for shipping packages to overseas to guarantee delivery before 25 December will be approaching soon. It still hasn't been announced by the JAPAN POST yet but usually it's around 15 November for most countries. (This is by standard airmail) I will inform you later when it is announced but please be aware!

Yes, this is the coffee issue and features many great coffee shops all around Japan (it even has a "coffee map" at the end of the magazine with a list of good coffee shops in Japan) and people's coffee styles. Cute New Mini Size Masking Tapes!!

Really adorable mini size washi paper tapes have just arrived! Each tape is 6 meter long while the normal tape being 15m (the width of the tape is the same 1.5mm), you can compare the sizes of the normal ones and the new ones in the 3rd and the last images.
These mini size masking tapes are so cute and easy to carry or store, excellent if you want to have many different colours/patterns but don't want to spend fortune buying so many tapes at once! There are 2 sets available, SWEET and VIVID and you get 8 rolls of tapes in each set.

HANA HUKIN Kitchen Cloths

Recently and newly added to UGUiSU online store, the award winning (GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2008) "Hana Hukin" is a beautiful cotton cloth made of pure cotton fabric formerly used as mosquito netting , a specialty of Nara Prefecture, Japan. Mosquito netting fabric (kaya) has high absorbency and durability and is perfect in dishcloths. The cloths are large yet thin, easily folded for use and then spread out to dry. Over time, the cloths become soft and supple, and eventually, they make good rags.

Hana Hukin is available in 5 colours that are named from flowers ("hana" means flowers): Sakura Pink (Cherry blossom), Ajisai Blue (Hydrangea), Sumire (Violet), Nanohana Yellow and Wakaba Green (young leaf). Each cloth is beautifully wrapped in wax coated paper.

Your wonderful thoughts and support are greatly appreciated and I have been comforted by each message received in this uneasy time we are going through at the moment. We are now saving electricity so I packed as many UGUiSU orders as possible before I could do it without turning the lights on. Orders received until today are now all ready to be shipped, and I have donated 100% of the money spent on the purchased items to help the victims of this tragic earthquake & tsunami through Red Cross Japan.

In the beautifully bound 80 pages of this book, you will see plenty of creative inspirations by photographs, sketches and texts. (Texts are written both in Japanese and English.) It is contained in a lovely cardboard case, too. But please be aware that this is a secondhand book, not new, and the cover is a little bit worn out around the edges, but overall it is in a pretty good condition.

"Kita no moyo-cho" literally means "Pattern notebook of the North" and it is designed by a Hokkaido based Japanese textile designer Rieko Oka. Rieko has won a mina perhonen design award in the past and her designs are lovely and warm, exciting, so fresh and adorable! "Furoshiki" is a Japanese wrapping cloth that has traditionally been used for transporting gifts, clothes, grocery shopping, etc. Today, furoshiki is becoming very popular in Japan as "eco-friendly" item. Traditionally, "furoshiki" cloth is only to carry gifts and is not to give with a gift that is wrapped inside but to keep it and re-use endlessly. But of course, you can give it with the gift so the person who received the gift can use the cloth in the way they want!

The mitsou design Cotton "KAYA" Kitchen Cloths come in 4 beautiful colours and they will surely be a lovely existence in your kitchen.

And the red rimmed IMABARI Gauze Towels are wonderful too. I really wish you can all feel how nice and soft these towels are. Imabari is known as a home for excellent towels and 50% of the towel produced in Japan are from Imabari. Light weight gauze towels available in 2 sizes, bigger "face towel" and smaller "wash towel". Simply beautiful!

Having added the first 2 items from above, there are now quite a few numbers of small paper bags/envelopes in the shop. Some of these mini envelopes are called "pochibukuro" and they are used to put in (usually small amount of) money to give someone for showing our gratitude. But these little envelopes would be great for organizing small objects like buttons, seeds, collected tickets, stamps etc, or put in some small items to give friends as a gift! I am so excited to finally be introducing these GORGEOUS papers designed by a Kyoto based Japanese painter/illustrator/artist Natsuko-san. How she uses the colours are very unique and really enchanting and these are all printed on exclusive Japanese washi papers and the actual touch of them are also wonderful (each designs are printed on different papers). These are all in A3 size, 2 colours and 6 sheets in one packet (3 sheets each). It would be great to frame it like a poster to decorate your room! I hope you like them because I ADORE them!

What is Shirayuki Fukin??
"Shirayuki-fukin" literally means "white snow towels" and they are VERY popular in Japan. They come from Nara, an ancient capital city of Ja
pan near Kyoto, and they are made of a fabric that was once woven into mosquito nets called "kaya". These cloths are very soft, durable and absorbent and are perfect for using as dish cloths and wash/hand towels. Over time, the cloths become really soft and supple, and eventually they make great rags.

I added these new masking tapes to my shop today. Black and brown are the new colours of Editions de Tokyo pretty sets. The one in the middle is a cute French colour set, the red one is the Eiffel tower print, plane white, and blue handscript print.

Wonderful Else from France purchased many paper balloons from my shop earlier, I thought she might be giving them as Christmas gift to her friends and family. But when I saw these awesome images of how she presented the balloons at her home on her lovely blog olivelse, my eyes sparkled with joy! Don't they look marvelous!? It is also such a pleasure to see the items from my shop travel over to my customers and to be able to actually see getting and being there. Thank you so much Else! You really made my day :)

There is SO MUCH about minä perhonen in this WONDERFUL issue as this year is their 15th anniversary. You can learn all about mina perhonen including their history, mina perhonen textile archives (you can see all of their textile designs!!!) and the new spring and summer collection! For all minä perhonen fans, seriously this is awesome!!!!!

"Modern Japan Revival Paper" by Yonagado

"Modern Japan Revival Paper" produced by Yonagado is really really lovely. I first found their wrapping papers in a dear little shop in Kanazawa and bought some home absolutely loving them! And now their new products came out as mini paper bags and origami paper sets!

Many of the really modern bold disigns were used for kimonos in the Taisho period (1912-1926) in Japan and Yonagado reproducted those "forgotten" good old Japanese designs as the "Modern Japan Revival Paper".

The origami sets come in Kawaii and Lovely, each set has 6 different designs and there are 30 sheets in a packet. They will be great for wrapping small gifts, making collage or paper crafts and so on!!
